Hangover Hell

While I had a blast this past Saturday night at an awesome 80's Prom Birthday Party (I'll post a few pics later), one thing was made significantly clear to me-I cannot drink like that anymore! YIKES!

Note to self, you are not 21 and therefore you cannot drink like you did back then. Granted that was only about 6 years ago, but my body just can't handle that much alcohol now. Sadly, I don't even think I had too much to drink and I didn't even have a bunch of different drinks-I stuck with cranberry vodkas all night. I think I had 5 or 6... oh then there was that gross shot... Maybe the bartender was more generous than I thought. Plus, I even ate a full dinner midway through the party and
drank plenty of water throughout earlier in the day. WTF!

I literally spent all day yesterday feeling miserable in bed. Thankfully, the hangover nausea didn't set in until I got home the morning after the party and was safe and sound in my bed. But oh man, it was terrible and didn't really subside until around 11pm last night. Sadly, it wasn't even comical like the movie, "Hangover". Not. at. all.

Do other 20 somethings out there get this badly hungover too? Please tell I'm not alone in this hell! I remember the good ole college days when my friends and I could go out and drink ourselves silly and then wake up the next day and go to class and/or work feeling fine and then go out again at night. We had this kind of schedule for all those years in college! So, what happened between then and now? Is my liver shrinking? Is my age really to blame for this? Perhaps it's because I just don't drink like that anymore. Now all I can take is a glass or two of wine at night and I am good to go.

Regardless of the aftermath, it was a totally radical party-is that 80's enough for you?! Haha

The Calendar Release Party is Here!

Well, the day is finally here! Tonight is my roommate Gina's 2011 Calendar Release Party for Pin-Ups for Vets. There has been a lot of work put into making sure this event is a big success so we are all a little anxious over here.

If you happen to be reading this and you live in LA, then you must come check out this party tonight. It's going to be a lot of fun and probably one of the most entertaining parties you've been to in a long time. There is going to be a Burlesque dance troupe, a 1940's style singer, a raffle drawing and a lot more. This is a "can't miss" event!

Stay tuned for party pictures tomorrow!

We Need Help with a Pin-Ups for Vets Party!

Today I sent out an email asking for help from my family and friends for an event my roommate Gina and I are trying to put together to promote her 2011 Pin-Ups For Vets Calendar. Then, I thought, why not ask my blogging friends for help too. Perhaps, you guys have connections that could be useful to us for this event as well. So, please read the letter below and let me know. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Dear friends and family,

If you don't know already, since moving to LA, I've been helping my roommate, Gina, with her incredible non-profit organization,
Pin Ups For Vets. She makes these awesome pin-up style calendars and all the money raised from these calendars goes to support VA and Military Hospitals around the US. I've been lucky enough to travel to 4 different states with her since I've been here. By the end of this year, the project will have raised over $50,000. That's amazing, right?!

Well, on
JANUARY 25th, we are going to have a 2011 Calendar Release Party here in downtown Los Angeles. I was the production manager for this calendar so I can say first-hand that it's an awesome calendar. Be sure to go to her website and buy one for yourself or one for a soldier currently overseas.

Ok, back to the release party, in order for this party to be a huge success, we need lots of help.

Firstly, if you or anyone you know has access to a
red carpet, velvet rope or lighting, that would be great.

We are also planning on having a raffle too. So, please let me know if any of you work at a company that would be able to
donate high ticket items? We are thinking gift cards, electronics, jewelery, a weekend trip to Vegas, etc.... We need awesome prizes to attract people to the event. Of course all raffle proceeds will benefit hospitalized Veterans.

Along with all of this, we would like this to be a star studded event so if you guys know of any
celebs that would be willing to stop by, that would be terrific.

Last but certainly not least, we need
alcohol at this shindig. We would love to have a liquor company of some kind donate to the event. So, get your feelers out there and don't hesitate to contact me for more information on what we need for the event.

Thanks so much for your time and please let's work together to make this an amazing party for
Pin-Ups for Vets!!

A Lingerie Party?!

Ok here goes...I really wasn’t sure how to begin explaining our Saturday night's activity, but the beginning is the best place I guess....

First, you gotta know the back story- After picking up Atalaya up from the airport on Thursday night and going back to my place to change clothes, we head out to a bar called The Saint. We have a couple of drinks there and then we move on to the next place called “Happy Endings”, which I've talked about before on here. While waiting at the valet, a guy runs out of the bar and approaches Atalaya to introduce himself. For the sake of this story we shall call him Charlie. Charlie is an actor, but aren’t they all in LA, but he really is an actor and Atalaya has actually seen some of his work so whatever. He gives her his card and tells her to call him this weekend so he can convince her to move to LA. Yeah, that's exactly what she needs-a random guy telling her what's so great about living here.

So Saturday comes around and we are sightseeing on Hollywood Blvd. Atalaya gets a text from Charlie inviting us to a lingerie party that night. At first, we think of course not but as the day goes on, we start considering it as a possible option for later on in the night. It's the last night we can party and Atalaya wants to live it up! So we head over to Victoria Secret to pick up a couple of things just in case.

Ok, 7:30pm rolls around and we are getting ready to hit up our first stop and Atalaya's phone rings and it's Charlie asking if we have masks (why in the hell would we have masks?). We tell him no and he says he will find us some. He told us we needed to be ready to go by 9:30 because the limos will be leaving by 10pm. Side note: We are just thinking we are going to the Playboy mansion or something like it just…just to celeb watch.

So, we get to the rendezvous point and Charlie is an hour late! He shows up with these awful tissue paper cut-out masks. They were just horrible. Then he goes into the CVS and buys these headbands and cuts eye holes in them…which looked worse than the arts and crafts tissue paper Zorro masks. Any who, the limo appears and we get in. It is myself, Atalaya, Charlie and Steve (Charlie’s friend). We decide to take our chances without the masks. We pull up to this fantastic mansion in the Hollywood Hills. It was absolutely gorgeous! The security guard asks us for the password: We all look at each other like “password?” Anyway, the security guard goes ahead and tells us…it's ”fellatio”.... wow......

We proceed up the driveway and as we enter the house we were glad to see that some people were not wearing masks and everyone had on lingerie so we calmed down. We make our way to the outside pool area and the house over looks LA, I mean the view was amazing. I can’t put into words how nice the house was. We make our way over to the table for a couple of drinks and we begin to mingle. Then I hear “Ron Jeremy just arrived”. I wasn't familiar with who that was so Atalaya quickly informed me and we knew we were in trouble then.... I mean, what kind of a party does a porn star attend?!
We then look over to our right and see a lady dancing in the corner…with no underwear on. OMG. Atalaya's very first LA trip and we are at a SWINGERS party in the Hollywood hills, WTF???!!!!!

So, needless to say, I am instantly scared! What do we do? Are we going to be expected to do anything? Am I safe here? What the hell is going on?! Atalaya and I immediately find Charlie and ask him what in the hell was he thinking bringing us to a swingers party. He told us he had no idea but we knew that he was lying... How could you not know what you were going to if you knew the host?

Unfortunately, we couldn’t exactly leave because the limo ran in shifts, one every hour. The entire time we were at this party, we spent it ducking and dodging all sorts of advances. Other than the bathroom, there was no place we could hide. So we decided we were “with” each other. We weren’t physically with each other but for the purposes of that night, Atalaya was my girlfriend. Which turns out at a swingers party means NOTHING!

We saw so many more things that are just not appropriate for my blog but I think that you get the picture. What a night, right?! I'm still kind of in shock that it all happened in the first place. When I first woke up on Sunday morning, I really thought it was all just a dream. I couldn't seem to get clean enough either on Sunday. Despite feeling completely out of place, awkward, uncomfortable and just plain weirded out by that scene, I totally can respect what these 'swingers' are doing. They are all about free love and enjoying each other bodies very openly. I'm just not interested in that lifestyle myself. This was an experience and I guess it's more thing I can cross off my bucket list.... ; )

Thanks to Atalaya for helping me compose this post! Whew!

Bachelorettes!

Well, I got back from my barely 24 hours in Phoenix this evening and I must say that I am absolutely exhausted. After a crazy busy weekend, I am now babysitting tonight.
I'm just glad I don't have weekends like this all the time because I would surely never make it. For only being there about 24 hours, it was very eventful and I managed to find time to hang out with most of my favorite people still living in Phoenix. After the Bachelorette party on Saturday, I met a few other friends for lunch this afternoon so it was certainly time well spent. While I do miss my friends in Phoenix very much, I am still happy I moved to LA.

The Bachelorette party was a blast! It was my first one aside from my sister's and I definitely hope it won't be my last. The scandalous pole dancing class was certainly one of the highlights of the day. It was so much fun and something that I've always wanted to do. I couldn't believe how much of a work out it was and how much we all were sweating throughout the class. I am really sore today from using those muscles that I don't usually use. After this class, we headed back to the maid of honor's house for a quick bite to eat and to get ready for a night out in Scottsdale. We were taken by an awesome stretch limo to a karaoke bar. There's really no group of girls that can enjoy themselves as much as this group can at a karaoke bar. People kept walking by our private room and commenting on how awesome we sounded! We were even harmonizing and everything! I loved that we all wanted to sing the same good ole faithful songs from Britney Spears to Celine Dion to Whitney Houston. We ended the night by going to a few nearby bars.
It was a fabulous night and I am so glad that I was able to be a part of it.

"The man of her dreams has swept her heart away and soon it will be their wedding day so I have a suggestion, if I may... One last weekend full of play!!"

Oscar Party!

So, last night in honor of my birthday, my roommates and I threw a party. The Oscars were on tonight so we themed it "Oscars". Guests had to dress up in a costume from one of the movies nominated this year or come dressed in red carpet worthy attire. Gina and I dressed up as Avatars. They were awesome ensembles. We even made long blue tails and pointy ears. I am so glad that I bought a glue gun last year. Swati was a school girl from the movie, "An Education". Just about everyone dressed up for the occasion which was amazing. I think just about every film nominated for something was represented at the party. The pictures turned out great. I also had food to represent a few movies too. I made deviled eggs for "The Blind Side", mac and cheese for 'Precious", pitas and hummus for "The Hurt Locker", hot dog pastries for "Up", birthday cake for "An Education" and french onion dip and veggies for "Inglorious Basterds". I also made lots of popcorn, nachos and movie theater candy all around the house. The decorations were a big hit too-I had golden stars all over and even "red carpets" all around.

It was a great night and I am so glad that most of my LA friends could come. If you missed this party, no worries, the girls and I are bound to have another one.

Taking it back to the 50's and 60's!

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love dressing up. I love Halloween for that reason alone. I mean, come on, I was Lady Gaga last year, red bodysuit, disco stick and all! Theme parties are my absolute favorite. I've had the most fun at these kinds of parties. People really let loose and for one night, they can become someone else and really get into the mind of a different character.

My favorite Halloween ever was my senior year in college. My best girlfriends and I dressed up as each other for a night. It was hilarious! We all were bored with our costumes from the night before but didn't want to go out and spend money on another outfit. So we wrote each of our names down on a piece of paper and put them into a hat and one at a time, we drew names. We were all very creative and totally got into it, even imitating each other's personalities throughout the night. I'll never forget that fun night!

So anyway, after our wonderful dinner last night, Gina, Swati and I got all dressed up in late 50's and 60's style clothes for a Mad Men themed birthday party. The birthday girl was Rebekah, her parents taught with my parents overseas many years ago in Pakistan and then again in Myanmar. We got re-connected thanks to facebook and have been more in touch since I moved here. She lives not too far away in Santa Monica.

Well, the roomies and I seriously got into this theme. Because of Gina's project, Pin Ups for Vets, she has tons of wigs and accessories from different eras so I definitely took advantage and wore one of her great blonde wigs and an awesome red hat. I also wore short black gloves, had on bright red lipstick, a pearl necklace, clip on earrings and a black clutch purse. I had bought the dress earlier in the week at that vintage store. So, I was head to toe decked out in this decade. We looked fabulous!

We had a fun time at the party and then proceeded to go to a couple nearby bars after the party ended. We were quite entertaining wherever we went and got lots of stares but we didn't mind because we looked awesome! We even told a few people that we had just felt like dressing up and that there was no specific reason! : ) I look forward to more theme parties in our future!

All things vintage

So being in LA has made me take a closer look at my clothes. I'm not very happy with the general theme and my basic style. I think that it could be much more fun and hip. Of course I do have a few pieces that are awesome but not enough. Now that I live here in LA, why not go in that direction now?

I have a new found love for all things vintage.

Today I braved the vintage store, Hubba Hubba, which doesn't have the most friendliest of reviews on yelp.com but does boast a great supply of fabulous vintage clothes. That is all very accurate. Without going into too much detail, the sales woman in the shop was very helpful while also being slightly pushy and a tad forceful. But all in all, I enjoyed this shopping experience and left with some incredible vintage 60's era style dresses and a small black clutch.

Why 60's era clothes? Well, on Saturday, my roommates and I are going to a "Mad Men" themed party and we are supposed to dress up in 60's era clothes for it. We are very excited about it and it should be lots of fun. Don't worry friends, I'll post the best pictures on Sunday!
