Overwhelmed with Blogging

For the first time since I started blogging almost a year ago, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. For starters, I'm not sure why, but I feel pressured to write a new exciting post everyday. I've certainly stayed up way later than I should in order to get a new post up on my blog for the next morning. When I do occasionally skip a day or two, I always feel guilty. I almost feel like I didn't turn in my homework or something... Weird, right?! Why do I do this to myself?! UGH! Ok, I'm an interesting gal and do a lot of awesome things here in LA but come on, there are days when it's hard to post something. I don't do something cool every single day. Perhaps, I have totally unrealistic expectations... Maybe I should only blog when the mood strikes me or I do something uber LA fabulous. Right? What do you think? What do you as my wonderful followers want to read about? As a blogger, when do post? If you are posting something everyday, how do you find the time?

I'm also struggling with finding the time to comment on all the blogs I follow too. There are so many amazing, funny, inspiring, sweet and crazy blogs out there that I adore reading but I just don't have the time to read them all.
How can I possibly keep up with them all? How do you keep up? What are the tricks of the trade?

Whew! Well, it definitely felt good getting this off my chest and blogging about it. There, now Tuesday's post is done and I can go to bed now! Haha! : )

  1. I like to think of blogging as a hobby. For me, this means that when I feel like it (and all the important things are done) I blog! Every now and then I will go 3-4 days without wanting to blog, and that's fine! Most bloggers go through phases so don't feel left out. Just enjoy it and keep it casual with no pressure!

  2. I agree with you. It's almost getting to be like a part time job. I enjoy writing, but it's frustrating when I write and see that people read my blogs but don't comment.

And I'll admit, I'm guilty of the same. I'm getting better, but still. Keep at it, I'm with ya!

  3. When it comes to blog posts, I look at it as quality over quantity. And we all understand that life isn't super exciting every day. I always enjoy reading your blog, so don't be too hard on yourself!

On days you don't know what to write, you could always use the famous homework excuse:

    The dog ate my blog.

  5. I have been experiencing a bit of writer's block as of late, and it's hard for me to post. Also, my blog is super specific, and I'm getting a bit tired with the theme... Or at least it's hard to talk about all the awful dates I've been on and pay attention to SarcasticTastic at the same time. I tried posting something every day a couple of weeks ago, but felt really overwhelmed by it. Now I post when I feel inspired to write... Otherwise, I find I'm not very happy with the outcome. When it comes to commenting on other blogs, I try to comment at least once a week (more if something pops up that is super interesting).

  6. I'm a comments junkie. There, I said it and I'm glad!
Easy for me to squander a couple of hours over the course of a weekend wandering among the different blogs I visit. Just to see if anyone has responded to a comment I left there. And then there's my own blog - have you ever felt disappointed when a post you thought was great receives hardly any attention? Talk about a silent heartache...

  7. I definitely don't have time to post every single day so I post whenever I feel like it. As far as reading blogs, I have my favorites on my blog roll. Those are probably the ones I comment on the most. The others, I try to get to whenever I can.

  8. There is such an ebb and flow to this blogging thing. You'll find a way that works for a while, and then it will need changing.

I have found a pretty good rhythm that works for me, at least for now. Let's see how long that lasts. :)

  9. oh my gosh, don't feel guilty! i like to think of it as a stress and creative outlet, that should be a treat, not a chore :) just post when it strikes your fancy and we'll be here to enjoy it!

  10. Leah, maybe it's just cause we live so far apart and don't get to talk on the phone too much, but I love reading everything on your blog! I love reading about your purse, your banana bread, your crazy-delicious dinners at fancy restaurants, and what to name your fish! Even though you're not blogging for me, it makes me feel more connected to you. So blog away dear friend! I read all your posts and love them! (But I can only imagine the anxiety of what to write...keep it up though, you'll always have faithful followers!)

  11. I tried to post almost every day about a month ago but that got to be too much pretty fast. Now I have time to read and comment on the blogs that I follow along with different ones (like yours!). I also have time to write posts that I'm pleased with at the end. Quality is better...you'll feel better too!

  12. Well, Mr. Ed would never speak unless he had something to say. Unlike me. Do what makes you happy. We'll just hum along.

  13. i read blogs out of my google reader. they are added in alpha order but i always move to the top of the list, the blogs i like to read the most. and also i move up the blogs of the people who always make a point of coming to my blog and commenting. The blogs on the top of the list always get my attention.

after a while i noticed that i was skimming or not reading at all a lot of blogs on my reader so i started deleting people. it's much more manageable now.

  15. I've been feeling the same way lately! I've started carrying around a little notebook with me to jot down ideas. It helps a lot! And don't feel pressured to post every day. I stick to 3 times a week...occasionally 4 if I've thought of something great.

    Keep writing...I love reading!

  16. Blogging is fun and rewarding but can bog you down quick. I am a big proponent of commenting, etc. but as my blog grew and continues to grow I have had to find (or am trying to find) a balance...and the thing I have to keep in mind is that my blog is for me - it is OK to not post, it is OK to put off making visits, it is OK to take a break. Don't make it a chore and you will love it.

  17. I know what you mean, but you don't HAVE to post something everyday... this is your space to do whatever - how much or how little - you want. Your true loyal followers will keep coming back. Eliminate the pressure, this is suppose to be fun. A hobby, not your life.
